Often times, God is tugging on us. He is gently pulling our sleeve and petitioning us to just sit with Him. He beckons us to break away from worry and from busyness, and to simply lay our head on His shoulder.
Too often, we find ourselves juggling everyday tasks such as paying bills, scheduling appointments, cleaning, decluttering, running errands and tending to family emergencies. We are constantly on the move. We become frustrated with the little things and we procrastinate with the big things. As we continue to face uncertainties, God again reminds us that there is nothing too hard for Him. As the dust settles, we are mesmerized by how much clearer things appear when God is in control.
Sometimes we fail to see God as the Shepherd that He is. But if we look around, God is constantly reminding us that we have everything we need, even when we perceive that we need more. We must learn to rest in the meadows, and we must find time to meditate by the quiet streams.
We must confidently trust that if there is darkness lurking up ahead, God will be right beside us, guarding and protecting us on every side. That is what a Shepherd does. He guards and He fights for us. He is perpetually watching over us. He will go to the ends of the earth to ensure that we are safe from harm. He is always reminding us of His unlimited and unfailing love towards us.
He has commanded Goodness and Mercy to chase after us even when we are not chasing after Him. But even greater than that, God has promised us a forever home…one that cannot begin to compare to the homes we find on earth.
Sometimes it’s the little things that matter…like the phone call, the text, the song on the radio, or a simple scripture verse that serves as a gentle reminder of God’s unfailing love towards us.
Psalm 23 (TLB):
Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need!
He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength. He helps me do what honors him the most.
Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way.
You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest; blessings overflow!
Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life, and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home.
